To Germano Facetti's Friends

It has been a year since Germano Facetti's considerable archive was given to the Istituto (June 2006) and since the Istituto organized the seminar "Germano Facetti: the man, the artist, the archive" (27 September 2006) to make the public familiar with his activities. Now we would like to tell you how the work is progressing and inform you of the projects that have been carried out to emphasize the importance of Germano Facetti and his work.

The archivists of the Istituto, Luciano Boccalatte and Andrea D'Arrigo, are thoroughly examining the documentary material provided. Nine metres have been analysed so far, and they add up to 270 archival units. Carlo Pischedda, responsible for the digital archives of the Istituto, is supervising the digital reproduction, front and back, of part of the over 22.000 images collected in the archive. Five thousand scans have been made so far, and will eventually be added to the Archos program, a classifying system operating on different types of documentaries. This will make digital consultation possible in the future.
In collaboration with Museo Diffuso della Resistenza, della Deportazione, della Guerra, dei Diritti e della Libertà of Turin, the Istituto has created the project of the exhibition "Resisting through Images. Germano Facetti - from the Description of the Lager to the History of the XX Century" and its catalogue. The research, which is being carried out by the Istituto, is coordinated by Dr. Daniela Muraca. The exhibition coordinated by Gianfranco Torri will open at Museo Diffuso on 24 January 2008, with the patronage of the Compagnia di San Paolo.

We warmly thank the Friends of the Germano Facetti Fund who have given their contributions to support the work for the archive and the seminar (2006).

We would like to remind you all that organizing and digitally reproducing the considerable heritage collected, the need to preserve the integrity of the documents by treating them in accordance with the structural requirements of the current archival rules, and restoring part of the images are activities which demand resources that the Istituto provides fully as far as the work and consultation of qualified staff are concerned, and only partially when it comes to other expenses. We will be very thankful to all those who would like to help valorise such an enormous archival heritage.

We would be pleased to host anyone who wants to visit the Istituto, to see how work is progressing, and to be informed of the initiatives related to the archive.
